Diapers

After being inspired by Alicia, who has already started buying diapers and wipes for her baby, Michel and I decided that was a brilliant idea and so I bought one box of size one diapers today when I did our weekly grocery shopping. This brought up so many questions, though.

1. What brand of diapers did you prefer and why?

2. Are all wipes made equally? (Wal-Mart brand vs. name brand)

3. Did you buy a full box of Newborn-sized diapers, or a small package? I know it all depends on the size of the baby, and how fast he/she grows...

4. Do you know anything about diaper deals on websites (diapers.com, amazonmom, etc) Do they really offer amazing deals on diapers?

Again, any suggestions/advice you can give is appreciated!!!

  1. Okay, let me just say that buying ahead on diapers and wipes is a great idea. However, buy starting at a size 3. People are likely to give you newborns, 1's, and 2's at showers. But they don't buy bigger usually. So start stocking up on 3's and 4's.

    1. It depended on the kid and the age. Newborns, I really like Pampers Swaddlers or the Huggies Newborns. They both have a little line on the front that changes color when the diaper is wet. When they are in a size 1 (and usually a 2) I like Huggies the best. I can't remember the name of them...it's the little version of the Little Movers. They have Winnie the Pooh on them. When Karys was in a 3 and 4 we used the Sam's brand. We used Target brand on Zane for awhile but now we use Luv's because they're bigger than the Target brand.

    2. I like the Walmart brand wipes. They're just like the Huggies. Huggies wipes are thicker than Pampers wipes. More like a paper towel, whereas Pampers wipes are thinner, more like a Kleenex. (Not really that thin, but I don't prefer them.) Target brand wipes are more like Pampers wipes. I've always used fragrance free wipes because my kids are sensitive. You should probably do that too since you already know you have fragrance sensitivies.

    3. I don't think I ever bought newborn diapers. I think I only needed what was given to me at showers. I really think both kids were only in them for a couple of weeks. I know Zane was. Even Karys wasn't in them long.

    4. I did amazon mom for a little while. But then I switched to Target brand diapers so I stopped using it.

I like being able to impart my knowledge on you. :)

  2. For size 3 and 4's, I have loved the White Cloud brand that is only sold at Walmart... And not all Walmarts have them. They are really soft and absorb ant, and are the same price as the Walmart or Target brands. For wipes, I love Huggies! I like the natural care ones the best, and I like to get a big box of them and then restock the flip top containers. I like those much better than getting the smaller plastic packages. I really hate the Pampers wipes...they have a weird film on them that prevents you actually getting anything off when you wipe.

  3. If you would like to make your own wipes, I am happy to show you how. It's super super easy and it saves money. Landry has super sensitive skin, but we have tried lots of different brands. The only one we didn't like was Huggies! For whatever reason Landry leaked out of those like crazy. It was very annoying! We bought a whole box of like 200 NB diapers and ended up buying a few more before we moved him up. We were in size 2 the longest so I would stock up on those. We love Sam's brand diapers now.

  4. I agree that you probably don't want to stock up on Newborns or 1s. You'll get those at showers and you'll also get gift cards you can use for that if you don't have enough of a size. Don't open a package until you are actually ready to use it. Most stores will let you exchange for a larger size if the package is unopened. I like Pampers for the little days (N or 1) but not so much for larger sizes. Luvs, Huggies, Sam's brand all did well for the larger sizes. Huggies are my preference for pull-ups.

I totally agree that Huggies wipes. I never used Wal-mart brand, but if they are like Huggies, then they'll be good. Pampers and Target Brand, not so good.

I do cloth now with Nicholas and it's fabulous. Super easy and saving a bundle!
