Delicious, low-fat, low-cal brownies

I've talked about these brownies quite a bit, and had several requests for the recipe, so here it is:

I found this recipe when watching the Cooking Channel one day. Michel found it online, and one day we decided to try it out, and it's been a hit ever since! We always have the ingredients on hand, and we make these at least once a month!  http://health.discovery.com/fansites/devin-alexander/recipes/brownies.html

If you don't want to follow the link, though, here's the recipe:

1/4 c. unsweetened applesauce
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sugar
4 egg whites
1/4 c. flour
1/2 c. unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray an 8x8 square pan, or a pie plate with non-stick cooking spray.

Mix together unsweetened applesauce, vanilla, sugar, and egg whites with a whisk until well-blended.

Add the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt to the mixture and stir until well-combined. Pour it into the prepared pan and add in the chocolate chips. Bake for 20-22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

The recipe says to cut it into 12 brownies, but that just seems too small for me, so we cut it into 8 brownies :) The brownies turn out something like this:

They're moist, chocolatey, and so delicious!!

Cutting them into 12 brownies makes each brownie 88 calories and 1 g. of fat. Cutting them into 8 brownies makes each brownie 133 calories and 1.5 g of fat! Not too shabby for a delicious brownie!!
